 Naseej Academy Successfully Concludes its Two Workshops in Collaboration with Special Libraries Association – Arabian Gulf Chapter

Under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Dr. Khalid Al Khalifa, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Isa Cultural Center, Naseej Academy has successfully concluded its two workshops held in collaboration with the Special Libraries Association – Arabian Gulf Chapter (SLA–AGC), organized as part of the 23rd Annual Conference & Exhibition of the SLA–AGC. The workshops were held on March 5–6, 2017, at the Diplomat Radisson Blu Hotel, Isa Cultural Center, Kingdom of Bahrain.
The first workshop adopted the theme "The Vital Engagement of the University Library in the Accreditation Process". Dr. Amal Mostafa, Associate Professor in Library and Information Science at Cairo University, was the workshop moderator.
The workshop addressed the following key topics:

  • Accreditation – its types, levels and organizations.
  • The importance of accreditation for both libraries and universities.
  • Accreditation standards, requirements, processes and procedures from the library perspective.
  • Examples of Library Self-Evaluation Reports (LSERs): Discussion groups.
  • Library Self-Evaluation Reports (LSERs): Requirements and procedures.

The second workshop, "Market Your Library Service: To thrive, or not to thrive: that is the question", was moderated by Dr. Clara M. Chu, Director and Mortenson Distinguished Professor at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (USA).

The workshop addressed the following key topics:
  • Identifying the target audience and community needs.
  • Creating targeted marketing messages that speak directly to the needs of the community.
  • The best/proper methods and techniques for reaching out to the community.
  • Developing a marketing strategy: Case studies and practical exercises.
  • The best/proper practices for identifying and using marketing channels effectively.
  • Tips for thinking – and marketing – out of the box.
  • Implementing new marketing plans and ideas in your library.

Several leaders and representatives from various library and information institutions in the Arab world participated in both workshops, including:

  • King Saud University – Kingdom of Saudi Arabia
  • Library of Parliament – Sultanate of Oman
  • Hisn Al Shumookh Library – Sultanate of Oman
  • National Archive – United Arab Emirates
  • Princess Sumaya University for Technology – The Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan
  • Ministry of Education – Kuwait
  • Kingdom University – The Kingdom of Bahrain
  • Federal Authority for Nuclear Regulation – United Arab Emirates
  • University of Bahrain
  • College of Islamic Studies – Qatar
  • Arabian Gulf University – Kingdom of Bahrain
  • Sultan Qaboos University – Sultanate of Oman


H.H. Sheikh Dr. Khaled Al Khalifa, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Isa Cultural Center, delegated Dr. Mansour Sarhan, Director of the National Library, Kingdom of Bahrain, to grace the concluding ceremony of both workshops. Dr. Sarhan expressed his deep appreciation for the activities and events Naseej Academy organizes to serve the Arabic knowledge society. He then handed out awards and recognition certificates to participants, and wished them every success.​
